Elmhurst University announced an exciting new partnership with PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies and its regional corporate members that will expand opportunities for students in the University’s engineering physics program, as well as the E-celerator innovation and entrepreneurship program.

The collaboration will provide students with access to state-of-the-art concepts, industry experts, and networking, mentoring and trade show exposure opportunities in the dynamic $1.2 trillion packaging, machinery, software, robotics and automation industry.

“We are thrilled to partner with PMMI to equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving world of robotics,” said Professor Venkatesh Gopal, chair of the Elmhurst University physics department. “This partnership will provide our students with invaluable hands-on experience in advanced mechatronics, hardware and software, and future exposure to the latest industry trends.”

Through this partnership, Elmhurst University will offer students:

  • Access to PMMI’s 1,000+ high-tech company member base: This opportunity will be available not only to engineering physics majors but also to students majoring in other science, technology and mathematics fields, as well as students participating in the E-celerator innovation and entrepreneurship program and the Weigand Career Center for Professional Excellence.
  • Industry expert mentorship: PMMI members will provide guidance and mentorship to students, helping them to learn best practices and develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Networking opportunities: Students will have access to exclusive networking events and opportunities to connect with industry professionals.
  • Internships and job shadowing: Students will gain relevant, hands-on experience through internships and job shadowing placements with PMMI member companies, giving them a professional edge in the marketplace.

"This partnership perfectly aligns with Elmhurst University’s commitment to providing students with a comprehensive education that prepares them for successful careers,” said Patrick Yanahan, executive in residence of the E-celerator program. “By combining academic coursework with exposure to state-of-the-art corporations and industry leaders, students will be well-equipped to contribute to the future of automation, software, robotics, data and more."

"This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to foster innovation and produce the next generation of tech leaders in private industry,” said Marty Gahbauer, executive director of the Weigand Career Center for Professional Excellence. “It offers a great opportunity for our students to be exposed to the latest technology and industry contacts as they work toward graduation."
